❤️🇿🇦❤️Masakhu u Langa~Build Back Langa

“It always seems impossible until it’s done” ~ Nelson Mandela

🇿🇦Langa is one of the oldest townships, with a rich and turbulent history, a focal point of protest against apartheid. It is on a mission to provide education and arts opportunities to improve the health and wealth of its residents.

💙While there are limited resources and varied housing that varies from shipping containers, hostels , apartments and homes, this community has a strong foundation of safety, pride, respect and love in order to thrive.

🌎 It was the children that played in the streets greeting visitors with oversized hugs and smiles, while blowing kisses and waving that opened our hearts and minds to what could be… if only…

🙂Sooooooo, we are creating a partnership to support these kids and working with community leaders to provide physical and monetary support through a kids’ program to clean up the streets and assist in educational resources. If this speaks to you to join ‘ Let’s Build Langa’ , DM me and I’ll send you details on how to join the team! ❤️🇿🇦🌎

Incredible Langa Township tour and meeting with Nelson Mandela's friend and prison guard!

It was such a wonderful day getting to learn about the history and present-day of Langa township, the struggles, and the honest truth of the oppressive systems that were in place. It helps you see the reality of the disparities in Cape Town which you won't find in the bubble of the more affluent part that you'll be based in CT. Also, you see the resiliency, entrepreneurship, optimistic spirit, and creativity of black folks who lived in apartheid times. It was an emotional experience for sure but one you need to do to have a more well-rounded perspective of South Africa. Also, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet Nelson Mandela's prison guard + friend Christo Brand, his stories will move you, I cried at one point. Truly a must-do.

So much in one day!

Quite a lot is included in this experience and it's not just about Mandela! (although that was really really cool, Christo is a great storyteller!)

I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to learn more about one of the townships, some ZA history as well as taste some unique foods! Thanks so much to Sugar, our amazing guide, she gave us some very personal stories that helped us to understand her people's culture. It's eye opening.
