Description

The Herban Produce Farm Experience is a multi-sensory journey through an urban farm on Chicago's west side. You will learn about urban farming while walking through the various growing methods used at the farm including in-ground agriculture, vertical agriculture and hydroponics. The Herban Produce farm manager will teach us about the use of crop planning and rotation, on premise bee keeping, irrigation for water conservation, and biodynamic agricultural components like composting, cover crops, and the integration of rare heritage orchard trees. The tour will also visit the native prairie bioswale on site. To round out the tour, we’ll be able to do a test of several crops harvested each week and be able to purchase additional produce to take with them after the tour.

Special for Remote Year, we’ll be given a food map detailing shops and restaurants throughout the city that sell and serve the farm’s products.

Who This Experience Is Good For
Gardeners, health conscious, and anyone interested in ingenious inventions that have been created specifically for the farm and small plot farming

Difficulty Level
Easy, as we travel by Uber to the location, and walk around the premises.
