Itinerary

 

DAY 1

Welcome to Oaxaca, amigo! Please arrive in Oaxaca City by 4 pm in order to check into the hotel and make it to both an introduction of the trip and welcome dinner experience.5:30 PM- Meet at the Lobby. You will meet at the hotel’s patio and share a mezcalito with your local hosts in Oaxaca, who will introduce you to both the City and the celebration of Day of the Dead. Afterwards, our welcome dinner will take place in an incredible local restaurant.

DAY 2

Breakfast at the hotel & free morning to explore, relax or work. Lunch is on your own2:00 PM- Hotel Pick Up.Today is a very special day for every Oaxacan home.Families start building their altares, one of the most spectacular elements of Día de Muertos. We start our journey in Mitla (archaeological site) known as The Land of the Dead, where we’ll have a special ritual to connect with the celebration of honoring our ancestors. Later, we’ll visit Dalia and her family in a Zapotec community, where they will welcome us and share this amazing and deep experience with our group. We invite you to bring a photo or a memento that you’d like to offer for the altar and to connect with this tradition.

INCLUDED: Breakfast at hotel, Transportation, entrances , guided tour, Zapotec Ritual, Altar building Experience and Dinner and night visit to cemeteries.

 

 

DAY 3

Breakfast at the hotel. 9:00 AM- Hotel Pick Up.Get ready for a refreshing swim at the cold springs in Hierve El Agua. This is a unique place that you will remember forever!Around 12:00 PM we will leave Hierve El Agua and head to enjoy lunch. We’ll be back in Oaxaca around 4:00 PM and you’ll get to enjoy your free evening and dinner on your own.

INCLUDED: Breakfast, Transportation, entrances, hike and lunch.

DAY 4

Breakfast at the hotel. We have planned a very special last day for you. We’ll visit two Zapotec communities to connect and learn from women-led projects. First, we’ll visit a family of potters in Tlapazola, a place where women have sought and safeguarded the artisan tradition: they make their pieces by hand and do not use a potter’s wheel. Later we’ll have a delicious homemade lunch and Trini will teach us how to make chocolate from scratch. We’ll end our day at the Women's Weaving Cooperative in Teotitlán del Valle, where we’ll have a dynamic/workshop for our farewells. Our local hosts will welcome us warmly to share their knowledge: we will make chocolate, learn about natural dyes, and find out about traditional pottery. This is an unforgettable journey which explores the roots and history of Zapotec culture. You’ll have a couple of hours for packing and get ready for travel the next day. Farewell dinner at 7:30 PM

DAY 5

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, if you wish to eat somewhere else your local host will give you some recommendations. This will be your travel day and the end of your trip. Checkout at the hotel is by 12PM - noon.
