Meet Our Local Host
Shirin Ito
Moved to Japan when she was 10 years old.
One day, when she visited a friend's house, she read "Marmalade Boy" from the girls' manga magazine "Ribon" without knowing the Japanese at all.
Even without knowing the story or understanding the language her child's heart overflowed with tears.
At this time, she decided to become a manga artist, and at the age of 14, she submitted her first manga to "Shueisha" (contest) and won her first award.
After that, she was selected several times in contests by major publishers, and although she was accompanied by an editor, she was not able to make her debut.
However, she found out that she could do more than only draw manga, she could design, write, paint, edit, teach, etc.
Her goal now is to teach and share more people about this pop culture that influenced and is still really present in her life day by day.
