Description

We welcome you to the Cape Malay neighbourhood of Bo Kaap, an area where your eyes will experience a fiesta of colourful houses and your stomach will feast on the delicious local food.

We take a walking tour of the predominantly  Muslim community with the lovely Shireen who will be sharing with us the history, architecture, culture, religion and also the socio economic development that is happening in the community.
Followed by a delicious and entertaining Cape Malay cooking class with Shaamiela. We have Shaamiela and her cousin (who lives two doors down from her) to thank for the brightly painted houses. Her cousin was the first to paint his house lime green and she followed suite and painted hers bright pink. From there everyone jumped on the bandwagon and started painting their houses. They were the pioneers of creating the area and the colourful mix that it is.

BoKaap Tour and Yummy Local Lunch

The tour of BoKaap and Atlas Spice was great! Loved hearing about the history of the area and the people and then learning about how to use all the spices. Shaamiela's place was so quaint and it was interesting seeing a local's house and kitchen. She taught us how to make the dishes were we served and then we ate a delicious meal together. She made sure everyone was involved and talked the whole time about her life and her love for cooking.
