Description

The Madonie is a mountain range in northern Sicily and constitutes the largest natural park in the province of Palermo.

We will take you to discover one of the lesser-known corners of Sicily, taking a day's hiking immersed in nature. The park is not only of great importance from a naturalistic point of view but also historically and culturally.
Many of the mountain traditions associated with sheep farming are still alive here, and it is home to some of the most beautiful medieval
Sicilian medieval villages.

Itinerary

Our proposal envisages a pick-up point in town at around 8.30 a.m. (times can be adjusted) and from there by car to the Madonie (1.5 hours' drive), from where we will begin our walk through dense woods and unique landscapes.
We will reach the beautiful Piano Cervi meadow, populated by numerous fallow deer and wild boar. Along the way we will visit a typical pagghiaro, an ancient building that served as a shelter for shepherds during the seasonal migration of their flocks.
seasonal migration of the flocks. Then we will move on for a rustic lunch at a small mountain hut mountain, at an altitude of 1600m, where we will prepare a simple but quality meal based on local products, while sipping a glass of wine.
After lunch and coffee, those who wish can enjoy some relaxation in a hammock, in the shade of the beech trees that surround the refuge, while the more adventurous
refuge, while the more daring can climb a nearby panoramic peak with one of the guides. Back to the cars, we can move on to the medieval town of Petralia for a stroll through the historical centre and enjoy a delicious granita, before heading back to Palermo.
