MORE INFORMATION

Description

Kılıç Ali Paşa Hamamı is in the historical district of Tophane and it was constructed in between 1578-1583 by the great architect Sinan. Bathing in a hammam has been an essential part of Turkish culture. It is not only used for relaxation or to clean the body but it also hosts important events such as the traditional bridal hammam and groom’s hammam.

Once you enter the hammam, the host will explain the hammam ritual and offer you homemade sherbet. You will lie down on the hexagon shaped marble (Gobekasi) for at least 10 minutes to get used to the Hamam temperature. Then you will be invited by your host to another place (kurna, the marble water basin) then they will exfoliate your body with a special scrubbing mitten. That is called “kese”. At the end of the ritual, bubble soap wash awaits you which will make you feel “as light as a feather” as they say in Turkey.
